Henry Breitrose is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Communication
at Stanford University. He established Stanford's Graduate Program in
Documentary Film and Video Production in 1965, and was Chair of the
Department of Communication from 1976 to 1982,

He was Founding General Editor of Cambridge Studies in Film and a
founding member of the editorial board of the journal Cinema Studies. Until
his retirement in November, 2008 he served as Vice-President for
Research and Publication of CILECT, the International Association of Film
and Television Schools.

He has lectured and consulted widely, at UCLA, New York University,
Columbia College, the London School of Economics, the Australian Film,
Television and Radio School, the Communication University of China the
Beijing Film Academy, the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica, Mexico
City, the Film and Television Institute of India, the National Film and
Television Institute of Ghana, University of Natal, and other institutions
world-wide. He was a visiting fellow at the East-West Center in Honolulu,
and was the Christensen Research Fellow at St. Catherine’s College,
Oxford.

In addition to his academic work, he has been active in Public Service
Broadcasting, as consultant to the National Endowment on the Arts,
Member of the Board of Directors of KQED, San Francisco, and Lay
Representative to the National Association of Public Television
Broadcasters.
